Large quantity of cocaine found at the port of Thessaloniki

The authorities found and confiscated  over 81 kg of cocaine in two containers loaded with bananas from Ecuador at the port of Thessaloniki.  According to an announcement on Friday, the drugs were detected by inspectors of the  Independent Authority for Public Revenues (AADE) while conducting random checks using a mobile X-ray machine at Thessaloniki customs, which revealed a suspicious organic substance in the refrigeration units of two containers transporting the bananas. The estimated value of the cocaine found is approximately 2,250,000 euros.
Customs inspectors, in cooperation with the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki, proceeded immediately to seize the drugs, while an investigation has been launched to locate those responsible.
