Germany handed over to Greeece the annual presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IRHA) in a special online event on Thursday, the Greek Foreign Affairs ministry announced on its website.
"With a deep sense of responsibility, Greece commits to promoting its substantial work towards keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive," the ministry underlined in its statement.
In a series of events to be held in the near future, the Greek presidency will emphasize educating and learning about the Holocaust, especially younger generations about what the Holocaust means, so that it shall never be repeated, stressed the ministry.
Due to pandemic's restrictions, the handover event was performed online, where addresses were delivered by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Deputy Prime Minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos, Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias, Education Minister Niki Kerameus, and incoming IHRA Chair Ambassador Chris Lazaris.
