Greece holds a strategic position for MSC Cruises (Mediterranean Shipping Company Cruises), a company in the cruise sector, which views the country not merely as a tourist destination, but as a long-term partner in the Eastern Mediterranean, stated the Strategic Advisor to MSC Cruises Kyriakos Anastasiadis in an interview with Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) noting that the company is now dynamically expanding its presence in Greece with eight ships and over 20 destinations in 2025, also boosting less-promoted regions.
Anastasiadis underlined that the further development of the cruise sector requires a national central planning strategy and targeted investments in port infrastructure, including shore power facilities.
"We place particular importance on public-private partnerships and on leveraging passenger fee revenues to finance infrastructure," he said, noting that MSC reaffirms its commitment to the port of Piraeus but is also exploring the potential of other areas, such as Lavrio.
"Our company is investing in new-technology ships and is committed to zero carbon emissions by 2050, while passenger traffic in Greece is expected to increase in 2025, with the need for political stability and ports enhancement to be critical" stated Anastasiadis.
He also added that MSC supports the geographical decentralisation of tourism, incorporating new, authentic Greek destinations into its itinerary.
