
Greece's inflation rate accelerated by 2.6% in December from 2.4% in November and 3.5% in December 2023, resulting in an increase of 2.7% at average levels last year, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority ELSTAT.
Between December 2024 and December 2023, the fact that the food index, overall, turned into negative territory stands out.
However, significant price increases were recorded in clothing and footwear (6.2%), rents (8.5%), electricity (7.6%), natural gas (8.7%), hospital care (4%), pharmaceutical and medical products (4.7%), passenger transport by air (47.7%), package holidays (8.3%), restaurants-pastries-cafes-canteens (5.7%), hotels-motels-inns (8.8%), health insurance premiums (14%) and vehicle insurance premiums (5.6%).
In a monthly comparison, the general index showed an increase of 0.1%, compared to a decrease of 0.1% recorded in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.
The average index for the twelve-month period (January 2024-December 2024) showed an increase of 2.7% compared to the corresponding index last year, and an increase of 3.5% that occurred during the corresponding comparison of the previous two years.
Regarding harmonized inflation, it showed an increase of 2.9% in December 2024, compared to an increase of 3.7% in December 2023.
