Greek officers of the Port Authority and Turkish officers of the Turkish Coast Guard met on Chios island on Tuesday, in a technical meeting that had been originally scheduled in March 2024.

Greek port officials of ports along the East Aegean met with their corresponding Turkish counterparts.
According to information, they discussed collaboration to fight human trafficking, and to create channels of direct communication between local officials of the two countries, not just at higher level, as is done today.

Greek Port Authority delegation head Giorgos Christianos called it "a significant day for both the Greek and Turkish Coast Guard," and said it is the first such meeting in five years, which shows the need for both sides to reconnect and work closer.

Central Port Authority chief of Chios Pantelis Vatousis said the technical talks aim at reducing migration flows in the near future.
