Visitor numbers at the Palace of Knossos are hitting record highs, with more than 5,000 people visiting daily, according to site supervisor Nikos Papadakis. August is anticipated to bring over 200,000 visitors.
This year, monthly visitor numbers have consistently increased and Papadakis predicts that the total number could exceed one million by the end of 2024. So far, in 2024, Knossos has welcomed 525,837 visitors by the end of July.
Knossos remains the most popular attraction for tourists in Crete. "Many visitors return to Crete repeatedly and make sure to revisit Knossos," Papadakis noted.
In 2023, Knossos saw a total of 943,869 visitors, with August being the busiest month, attracting 170,958 people, followed by July with 152,989 visitors.
