Samothraki being supplied with generators after mainland fire interrupts power supply on island

Power generators are being transferred to the island of Samothraki, northern Greece, following the island's loss of power due to the raging fires at Alexandroupolis, Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) said on Tuesday.
Power supply to Samothraki has been cut since approximately 16:00 on Tuesday, noted HEDNO, when the two mainland medium-voltage cables supplying power to the island were irreparably damaged.
Both the Hellenic Coast Guard and Civil Protection are assisting in efforts to transfer 5MW power generators to Samothraki as soon as possible, it was noted.
