epaselect epa12227215 Palestinian fisherwoman Madeleen Kollab at her home in Gaza 12 June 2025. When Madeleen was six years old she took to the sea to start fishing with her father. When he suddenly became ill, when she was 13, she became the sole provider for her family. Activists informed her they would attempt to break the siege imposed on Gaza, and that it was her story which inspired the naming of the vessel which would carry a small amount of life support to the Strip. The Madeleen, a flotilla organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), set sail on a UK-flagged ship from Catania on June 1, 2025 attempting to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip.  EPA/HAITHAM IMAD  ATTENTION: This Image is part of a PHOTO SET
