Passenger traffic in Greek airports up 9.7 pct in January

Passenger traffic rose 9.7 percent in January 2019, according to the Civil Aviation Authority.
The total number of passengers reached 2,162,670, showing an increase of 9.7 pct compared to 1,971,908 in the corresponding period of 2018. Passengers at all airports in the country have increased by 190,762 compared to the corresponding period in 2018.
Arrivals and departures of foreign passengers increased by 10.8 pct, which corresponds to 1,158,506 passengers, compared to January 2018, when arrivals and departures of foreign passengers were 1,045,981. 
The total number of flights to Greek airports in the same month amounted to 22,652 (of which 13,339 domestic and 9,313 foreign), showing an increase of 11.3 pct compared to the corresponding period of 2018, when 20,356 flights were made.
On the basis of the same statistics, the greatest passenger traffic in January 2019 was recorded at the airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes and Chania. In the Athens Airport, passengers reached 1,384,208, while those in Thessaloniki reached 387,984, those in Heraklion 98,291, those in Rhodes came to 50,991 and those in Chania 50,901.
