Hatzitheodosiou on electricity prices: Need for measures to protect businesses, especially energy-intensive ones

The need to take measures to protect businesses, especially energy-intensive ones, from increases in electricity prices was underlined by the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen president Yiannis Hatzitheodosiou on Wednesday in an interview with Open TV.
Following the submission of an amendment in parliament for a special levy on electricity producers to help subsidise power bills in August, Hatzitheodosiou stressed the importance of protecting households and their available income.
He noted, however, that the same should happen with the enterprises, particularly the energy-intesive ones that have to cope with an increase in electricity prices of 20%, which is added to the increased operating costs of the last years.
According to Hatzitheodosiou, a lack of protection measures for the enterpises would lead to losses or at least the minimisation of their profits, which will force them to pass the cost to consumers or even threaten their viability.
