Household and NPI deposits up 1.129 billion euros in April

Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions increased by 1.129 billion euros in April, compared with an increase of 738 million in the previous month; while the annual growth rate remained almost unchanged at 3.7% from 3.6% in the previous month, the Bank of Greece said on Tuesday.

More specifically, the central bank in a monthly report said that in April 2023, the monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by 42 million, compared with a positive net flow of 2.979 billion euros in March 2023.

Deposits placed by the general government increased by 57 million, compared with an increase of 661 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 1.7% from 3.2% in the previous month. Deposits placed by the private sector decreased by 15 million, compared with an increase of 2.318 billion in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 3.7% from 4.5% in the previous month.

Corporate deposits decreased by 1.144 billion euros, compared with an increase of 1.581 billion in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 3.6% from 7.2% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs decreased by 1.153 billion, against an increase of 2.180 billion in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased by 9 million, compared with a decrease of 600 million in the previous month.

The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy stood at 4.7% in April 2023, compared with 5.2% in the previous month.Τhe monthly net flow of total credit was negative by 22 million in April 2023, compared with a positive net flow of 1.663 billion in the previous month.
