Turnover Index in Industry down 0.3 pct in12-month period

The Overall Turnover Index in Industry (both domestic and non-domestic market) in December 2019 recorded an increase of 11.3 pct compared with the corresponding index of December 2018, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority on Wednesday.

In December 2018, the corresponding annual change of the Overall Turnover Index in Industry increased by 1.1 pct.

The Overall Turnover Index in Industry in December 2019, compared with November 2019, recorded an increase of 15.7 pct.

The average Overall Turnover Index in Industry for the 12-month period from January 2019 to December 2019 decreased by 0.3 pct, compared with the corresponding index of the 12-month period from January 2018 to December 2018. In December 2018, the corresponding annual rate of change of the Overall Turnover Index in Industry for the previous 12-month periods increased by 9.8 pct.

The 11.3 pct increase in the Overall Turnover Index in Industry in December 2019, compared with the corresponding index in December 2018, was due to the following:

1. Changes in the sub-indices of the industrial sections:

▪ The Turnover Index in Manufacturing increased by 11.5 pct. The increase was mainly the result of the annual changes of the sub-indices in the following 2-digit divisions: beverages, coke and refined petroleum products, chemicals and chemical products, basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations.

▪ The Turnover Index in Mining and quarrying decreased by 1.3 pct. The decrease was mainly the result of the annual change of the sub-index in the following 2-digit divisions: mining of coal and lignite - extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas - mining support service activities.

2. Changes in the sub-indices in domestic and non-domestic markets:

▪ The Turnover Index in Industry in domestic market increased by 10.1 pct.

▪ The Turnover Index in Industry in non-domestic market increased by 13.5 pct.
