Energy cooperation in wider SEE region dominates 2nd Thessaloniki Regional Forum

Energy cooperation in the wider Southeastern Europe (SEE) region, sustainable development and the "green" transition dominated the 2nd Thessaloniki Regional Forum held on Sunday in Thessaloniki.
"Energy security, combating climate change and developing a sustainable energy future are cross-border issues that require cooperation," secretary general of the Environment and Energy Ministry Alexandra Sdoukou said at the forum.
Sdoukou stressed - among other things - that we should accelerate the energy transition, while highlighting the wide range of cooperation opportunities available between the countries in the region (along with great room for improvement).
She also presented the seven key pillars of the national plan for energy and climate, including lignite phasing out by 2028 through the adoption of measures for a fair transition, increasing the share of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in total energy consumption so that it reaches 35 percent by 2030, the interconnection of islands with the mainland, the promotion of electromobility and the role of natural gas in regional cross-border infrastructure and others.
