Tourism Min Kefalogianni visits the island of Santorini, Sikinos, Folegandros and Anafi

Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni visited the islands of Santorini (Thira), Sikinos, Folegandros, and Anafi as part of the ongoing dialogue with the local communities and public authorities of these islands. The visit followed the signing of the memorandum of cooperation last June for the establishment and operation of DMMOs (Destination Management and Marketing Organisations) in the municipalities of Thira, Anafi, Sikinos, Ios, and Folegandros.
The Minister first toured the fully renovated Archaeological Museum of Thira, which hosts the emblematic exhibition “ Cycladic Women - Unknown Stories of Women in the Cyclades,” a major cultural initiative that highlights the role of women in the Cycladic region from prehistory to the 19th century.
"Santorini is not only one of the world’s top tourist destinations, but also an island with a profound cultural footprint. The 'Cycladic Women' exhibition reminds us that culture is the heart of our identity and a key pillar of a sustainable tourism model," stated Kefalogianni.
The Minister of Tourism continued her visit with a stop at a local winery on the island, accompanied by the Mayor of Thira, Nikos Zorzos, and the President of the Santorini Hotel Association, Antonis Pagonis. There, she toured the facilities and spoke with professionals in the sector about the importance of wine tourism as a high-value thematic form of tourism.
The Minister also visited Sikinos, again accompanied by the Mayor of Thira, Nikos Zorzos. She was welcomed by the Mayor of Sikinos, Vasilis Marakis, with whom she toured sites of historical and cultural interest, such as the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, the Church of Episkopi, Panagia Pantanassa, and the Aghii Anargyroi.
The visit continued to Folegandros, where she was welcomed by the island’s Mayor, Kyriakos Marinakis. Discussions focused on local development and visitor management issues, with emphasis on preserving the island’s character and enhancing the tourism product in a balanced and sustainable manner.
The tour concluded on Anafi, where the Minister was received by Mayor Iakovos Roussos. A discussion followed with residents and local entities, centred on the island’s development prospects with a focus on sustainability, the well-being of local communities, the preservation and promotion of the natural and cultural environment, and the enhancement of visitor experiences.
