Parliament votes to refer former transport min Karamanlis to judicial council over Tempi train collision

Parliament voted on Tuesday evening to refer former infrastructure & transportation minister Kostas Achilleos Karamanlis to a judicial council for possible breach of duty over the deadly Tempi train collision.
The vote was based on a proposal calling for Karamanlis' investigation by a judicial council over the operation of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE).
A total of 157 deputies voted in favor of the proposal in the secret ballots, and 6 against it. A total of 164 deputies voted, while one ballot was invalid. All opposition parties except Plefsi Eleftherias abstained from the voting, as did several of the 25 Independent deputies, including those of Kinima Dimokratias.
Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis will then request of the Ministry of Justice a list of Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) and Council of State judges who qualify to serve on the council, and who will be selected by lottery.
