ELSTAT: Arrivals and nights spent in tourist accommodation increased 3.8% and 3.9%, respectively, in 2024

There was a 3.8% increase in arrivals and a 3.9% increase in nights spent in 2024, compared to 2023, according to the final data for the reference year 2024 on arrivals and nights spent in hotels, similar establishments, tourist campsites and short-stay accommodation establishments, released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority ELSTAT on Tuesday 
More specifically, in 2024 compared with 2023, there was an increase of 4.2% and 4.1% in arrivals and nights spent by non-residents, respectively, while arrivals and nights spent by residents recorded an increase of 2.8% and 2.7%, respectively.
The annual occupancy rate of the beds in hotels and similar establishments (excluding tourist campsites and short stay accommodation establishments) amounted to 50.6% in 2024, compared with 54.7% in 2023. 
During 2024, the largest share of arrivals and nights spent was observed in hotel accommodation establishments (79.4% and 76.4%, respectively).
According to the monthly distribution of the data, 56.9% of the arrivals and 63.8% of the nights spent in various forms of tourism accommodation in Greece, were recorded during the period of July to October.
As regards the breakdown of the survey data by region, the most significant increase of arrivals in absolute values, was observed in the Southern Aegean (5.6% in arrivals and 8.2% in nights spent), Central Macedonia (6.0% in arrivals and 5.9% in nights spent), Ionian Islands (5.6% in arrivals and 3.9% in nights spent), Attica (3.3% in arrivals and 2.7% in nights spent) and Crete (1.8% in arrivals and 0.6% in nights spent).
The largest share of arrivals and nights spent was recorded by non-residents, i.e. 73.7% of arrivals and 83.8% of nights spent.
In turn, the largest share of arrivals and nights spent by non-residents in the above accommodation was by persons whose country of residence was in Europe (80.4% of arrivals and 89.1% of nights spent) with a significant contribution from the EU member states (53.7% of arrivals and 59.2% of nights spent).
The greatest percentage contribution concerning arrivals from the EU was recorded for Germany (12.9% of arrivals and 16.3% of nights spent) and France (6.6% of arrivals and 5.8% of nights spent). As regards the rest of the European countries, the greatest contribution was recorded for the United Kingdom (16.0% of arrivals and 18.8% of nights spent).
Comparing the data for arrivals and nights spent with the corresponding data of the year 2023, the most significant increase of arrivals in absolute values among EU Members States was recorded for Italy (7.2% in arrivals and 10.7% in nights spent), Poland (7.3% in arrivals and 12.6% in nights spent) and Germany (1.8% in arrivals and 0.6% in nights spent).
As regards the other European countries an increase of arrivals in absolute values, was recorded for the United Kingdom (7.6% in arrivals and 3.8% in nights spent), Serbia (48.5% in arrivals and 45.1% in nights spent) and Turkiye (44.5% in arrivals and 54.9% in nights spent).
From the rest of the continents, a significant increase of arrivals in absolute values, is recorded from Asia, and, in particular, the People's Republic of China (32.3% in arrivals and 24.0% in nights spent).
