Prolonged heatwave across the country

High temperatures are forecast across the country throughout the week, with the heatwave likely to end on Sunday, July 27th. The mercury is expected to rise above 41 ° C starting on Tuesday, particularly in the interior regions of mainland Greece.
According to the updated Emergency Weather Bulletin, the following points are highlighted:

A. In coastal areas of the mainland, maximum temperatures will be 2 to 4 degrees lower than those in the inland regions.
B. From Wednesday, July 23rd, minimum temperatures in urban centers will remain high, ranging around 27 to 29 ° C, even during the night.
Authorities advise residents to take precautionary measures to stay cool and hydrated, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Here is a more detailed forecast for the first four days of the heatwave:

1. Monday:
High temperatures will prevail across all mainland areas, the Ionian Islands, the Eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach:

a) In mainland Greece:
38 ° C to 40 ° C, and locally up to 41 ° C in Thessaly and Central Macedonia.
In Athens and Thessaloniki, temperatures will reach around 38 ° C.

b) In the Ionian Islands, Eastern Aegean, and Dodecanese:
35 ° C to 36 ° C.

2. Tuesday and Wednesday (July 23rd):
Temperatures will rise further. Maximum values are expected to reach:

a) In mainland Greece:
39 ° C to 41 ° C, and locally up to 42 ° C in Central Macedonia, Eastern Central Greece, and the Eastern Peloponnese, 43 ° C in Thessaly while in Athens and Thessaloniki the temperatures will reach 39C to 40C

b) In the Eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese:
37 ° C to 39 ° C, and locally up to 40 ° C on Wednesday (July 23rd)

c) In the Ionian Islands:
36 ° C to 38 ° C

3. Thursday (July 24th):
Temperatures will remain at very high levels. Maximum values are estimated as follows:

a) In mainland Greece:
39 ° C to 41 ° C, and locally in eastern regions up to 42 ° C to 43 ° C. Athens: 40 ° C to 41 ° C. Thessaloniki: 39 ° C

b) In the Eastern Aegean islands and Dodecanese:
38 ° C to 40 ° C

c) In the Ionian Islands:
37 ° C to 39 ° C
