Searing heatwave expected across Greece and the Balkans from Monday, meteo forecast says

An intense heatwave with temperatures exceeding 44C in some locations is expected in Greece and parts of the Balkans from Monday, according to a forecast issued on Saturday by meteo.gr, the National Observatory of Athens weather service. Based on the forecast, the atmospheric circulation above Europe will favour the transfer of very warm air from Africa to Greece and the Balkans until at least next Friday, July 25.
Based on a map published by meteo.gr, the temperature at roughly 1500 meters above sea level between Monday and Friday will be up to 10C higher than the average for the period 1991-2020.
Maximum temperatures on the surface will depend on several factors, including wind and cloud cover, but could reach extremely high levels that in places exceed 44C.
The map showing forecast temperature deviations at 850 hPa (roughly 1,500 metres from the surface) can be viewed at the link https://meteo.gr/article_view.cfm?entryID=3785. The red shades indicate higher than normal temperatures.
