Namibian Ambassador Linda Scott has series of meetings in Athens

Namibia’s Ambassador to Greece and Ireland Linda Scott, who also serves as Namibian High Commissioner to the UK and Northern Ireland, recently visited Athens, accompanied by Namibia’s Honorary Consul in Greece Alexandros Eliades. She had a series of productive meetings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as with business and investment organisations.
Meeting Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou and former deputy foreign minister Tassos Hatzivasileiou, they discussed areas of mutual economic interest between Greece and Namibia, such as shipping, processing of agricultural products and foods, green hydrogen and renewable energy sources.
The Ambassador also had the opportunity to speak with the ministry's Secretary General of International Economic Relations and External Relations and Chairman of ENTERPRISE GREECE, Dimitris Skalkos, as well as with the company’s CEO Marinos Giannopoulos and to present the actions of the corresponding company in Namibia, the NIPDB (National Investment Promotion Development Board), in order to explore possibilities for cooperation and exchange of investment information and opportunities between the two countries.
Regarding the tourism sector, the Ambassador met with Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis, a former minister of tourism, who informed her about the proposed strategic programme for the African Continent and specifically for Namibia. The programme focuses on three important areas: access to finance, skills development - mainly of young people - and market integration.
At the same time, a meeting was held with the president of FEDHATTA, the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel and Tourism Agencies, Lysandros Tsilidis, who proposed the development of strategic collaboration through joint actions, in order to enhance the visibility of Namibia in the Greek market.
Given that Namibia is attempting to strengthen its footprint in international shipping, meetings were held with shipping companies, as well as the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Specifically, meetings were held with the First Vice President of the ACCI Sofia Kounenaki-Efraimoglou, and the President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vassilis Korkidis, and members of the PCCI board.
