Papastavrou: The primary goal is to reduce energy prices for households and businesses

The operation of the electricity market at a European and national level was discussed at the meeting held on Friday between Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou and the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen. The meeting was held at the environment and energy ministry, in the presence of the Deputy Minister responsible for energy issues, Nikos Tsafos, and the Secretary General of Energy and Mineral Resources, Despina Paliarouta.
According to the ministry, special emphasis was placed on the distortions observed in the European energy market between member-states in the north and south and the need for rapid steps towards its unification, the reduction of costs for households and businesses, energy security in the EU through the implementation of connectivity projects of common European interest, as well as the operation of the European task force for the reduction of energy prices.
Papastavrou referred to the first regional meeting of the task force, which took place on July 7, as well as to its upcoming enlarged, next meeting on September 3, which aims to better coordinate governments, administrators and regulators of European Union countries to immediately address the increase in energy prices.
He stressed that "we must fight as a Union to resolve the distortions that exist in the European system. Our primary, common goal is to reduce energy prices for households and businesses."
