New bill on illegal migration posted for public consultation

The Migration & Asylum Ministry's bill on returning migrants whose asylum application was rejected by Greece was posted for public consultation on Thursday.
Titled "Reform of framework and procedures of returning third-country citizens", the bill "significantly boosts Greece's institutional arsenal against illegal migration and updates Greek legislation," the ministry said in a statement.
It sets out regulations for the return of migrants, based on guidelines of the new European returns policy, and covers legislation loopholes in the current law, the ministry noted, adding that migrants who stay illegally in Greece will face a choice between leaving or being imprisoned.
The bill is posted at the open.gov platform at the following link: https://www.opengov.gr/immigration/?p=1873 (in Greek).
