Famellos: Greece's diplomacy has 'made serious concessions' with respect to Libya

Opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Sokratis Famellos on Thursday said that the map submitted by Libya, which extends its continental shelf as far as Crete was a "negative development", during an interview with SKAI TV.
He also queried statements made by Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis regarding Turkiye and Libya: "How can Mr. Gerapetritis claim that the two countries respect International Law, when we see such behaviour and choices that are in complete contradiction with the Law of the Sea and International Law? This is why our country must intervene at an international level. We cannot allow neighbouring countries to dispute sovereign rights and violate International Law. On the Libya issue also, Greece has made very serious concessions in its diplomatic policy over the past six years," he stated, noting that "Greece was also absent from the negotiation of the Turkiye-Libya (maritime) deal."
"Since 2019, Greece has not had a strong, multi-faceted foreign policy. It acts as the 'tail' of other powers. That is why the neighbouring country finds room to manoeuvre and form alliances," added Famellos.
Regarding developments in migration policy, he underlined that "this is a European problem," while criticising Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who, he said, "agreed with the far-right that Greece should serve as Europe’s prison guard.”
On the OPEKEPE scandal, he described it as "hypocritical and brazen" for the prime minister - whose government "is under investigation by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office"-to say "we will get the money back from the thieves, when those thieves were colluding with government officials. The government must first and foremost be subject to judicial scrutiny," he concluded.
