Fire in Lachi, Lakonia leads to evacuations; four rescues in Neapoli

Residents of Lachi, in Lakonia, were notified through the 112 number to evacuate to Neapoli due to a fire on Wednesday, and those in the Palekastro location at Lachi to also head to Neapoli, 2.5 km away.
The fire broke out at low brush in Lachi around 16:00 on Wednesday and a 112 message had been sent to residents to be ready for possible evacuation. More firefighters were brought in.
Currently, there are 66 firefighters trying to put out the blaze with 16 fire trucks, 3 forest fire teams, 6 airplanes and 2 helicopters.
Coast Guard rescues four
The Coast Guard rescued four people from Palekastro, after the fire that broke out in the area of Neapoli Vion. The four were transported by boat to the port of Neapoli.
Another Coast Guard vessel and private boats are in the area on standby to help out.
