Migration & Asylum Min Plevris meets with Egyptian Ambassador Youssef

Migration & Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris met with Egyptian Ambassador to Greece Omar Amer Youssef on Wednesday.
A ministry statement said that both sides extolled the high level of the current bilateral cooperation and discussed the illegal migration issue in a joint wish to intensify efforts to boost returns, which is a standing priority of the Greek government and the Migration and Asylum Ministry.
The need for more effective cooperation in migrant returns was raised as a prerequisite to further boosting legal migration. The Greek minister also informed the ambassador that a ministry team is currently in Egypt to continue the technical dialog in order to boost the bilateral agreement for legal work invitations to Egyptian farm laborers.
The meeting was held in a cordial climate, with the ambassador issuing an invitation to Plevris to visit Cairo, which he accepted for the purpose of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in managing the migration issue.
