Famellos: Kyriakos Mitsotakis is politically responsible for the OPEKEPE scandal

Opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Sokratis Famellos on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of having political responsibility for the OPEKEPE scandal and demanded general elections, in and interview with the radio 9.84FM.
"The issue is serious, and Mr. Mitsotakis is responsible. We cannot have a prime minister who is also implicated in a corruption scandal," he said.
He also directed sharp criticism at main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis, stating that unlike SYRIZA’s strategy for joint initiatives, Androulakis seeks a solitary path focused on partisan gains.
"We are proving that there is room both for cooperation and for a clear alternative to Mr. Mitsotakis," he added.
Famellos predicted that many debates will take place in Parliament over the next two weeks, adding: "Mr. Mitsotakis cannot hide from the proposal for a Preliminary Investigation Committee that we have submitted - he will be forced to come and provide explanations."
Speaking more broadly about SYRIZA’s role and the alliances among progressive forces, he stated that "SYRIZA's role is to coordinate social reaction with a political proposal - to bring about the departure of Kyriakos Mitsotakis."
