Frontex boat sinks off Petra on Lesvos, crew safe

A Frontex boat sank around 18:00 on Monday after striking a reef in the region of Petra, on Lesvos island.

The crew of the Portuguese-flagged vessel was rescued by the Greek coast guard.

The European border agency's boat was in the area in the context of a search-and-rescue mission with a Greek coast guard vessel and a helicopter. They were searching for four foreigners who did not reach the shore, according to 36 people who were rescued after crossing from Turkiye's coast to Lapsarna on Lesvos the same day.
