Greece named Best European Destination at the Telegraph Travel Awards 2025

Greece has earned a top distinction in the UK travel market, having been named Best European Country at the Telegraph Travel Awards 2025.
These prestigious awards have been held since 1998, aiming to recognise the finest travel products and services, and are considered highly influential in shaping the travel choices of British travellers.
The awards are determined by readers of The Telegraph-both print subscribers and registered users of the newspaper’s digital edition-who vote across 20 different categories for their favourite destinations, airlines, hotels, vacation rental companies, and other travel experiences, based on their travels during the past year.
In this year’s awards, 20,000 readers cast their votes, placing Greece in first place, dethroning Italy, which had held the top spot for 25 consecutive years. Norway completed the top three.
The award ceremony took place at a special event in central London on Friday, July 11, 2025, where the Greek award was received by Eleni Skarveli, Head of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Office for the UK and Ireland.
Commenting on the readers’ choice, The Telegraph’s online edition noted that Greece’s win is "entirely deserved, because there are few things the country doesn’t excel at." The article praised its islands, scattered across the Ionian and Aegean seas, calling them "exquisite," as well as its "visible" history, carved into the hillsides - from the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens to the ruins of Knossos on Crete.
