New Democracy proposes investigative committee over OPEKEPE

New Democracy Parliamentary Group, by decision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, proposed the launch of an investigative committee for OPEKEPE, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis announced on Monday.

Marinakis explained that this specific request "will investigate all aspects of the issue, far from petty party expediencies and with the aim of seeking the truth and the consolidation of the subsidy system."

In addition, the government spokesperson listed a series of reasons that led the government staff to this specific decision.

Among other things, he stated that "the issue of OPEKEPE, which annually distributes subsidies of 2.5 billion euros to 645,000 producers, is timeless and the investigative committee has the full ability and discretion to investigate, without excluding any development. The search for responsibilities, based on the facts and not petty party aspirations, will be served through the work of the investigative committee, which will examine everything about the operation of the organisation since 1998."
