Diplomatic sources: There will be an official response to the UN regarding Libya’s note verbale

The note verbale of the Government of National Unity of Libya to the UN on June 20, regarding Greece's announcement on exploration blocks south of Crete, does not contribute any new elements to the arguments already expressed, diplomatic sources noted.

They emphasized that an official response will be submitted to the UN on behalf of Greece.

It is also underlined that Greece rejects any act or initiative based on null and void agreements that have no basis in the International Law of the Sea.

As for the pending bilateral issue of the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) with Libya, Greece - as a genuine neighboring country - has expressed its readiness to continue discussions on the basis of the International Law of the Sea, as acknowledged by the Libyan side, when conditions allow.

No reaction will deter the Greek government from responsibly and effectively exercising the country's sovereign rights, the same diplomatic sources concluded.
