Marinakis: Voting "present", PASOK is absent from a great national battle

"The passage of the amendment in Parliament, the moves we are making at the European level, the communication channels with Libya, the work being done, the enormous efforts that the women and men of the Coast Guard always make within the framework of the law, all of this together with the armed forces and security forces, is a very complex exercise in which none of these moves, by themselves, solves the problem, but all of them together aim to have a successful management of yet another crisis that has occurred in recent years," government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said on Saturday in an interview with REAL FM.

Regarding yesterday's vote in Parliament, Marinakis said: "I think it is one of the saddest parliamentary positions that I can remember because PASOK supposedly wants to present a new responsible opposition with a different logic than what we had encountered so far. And in a self-evident initiative by the government to defend the interests of citizens, it was not a party initiative, it was a self-evident initiative, as you saw from the representative of the European Commission, with the approval of the European Commission, to limit an emergency situation."

PASOK chose to vote "present" which means that in essence it did not support this initiative, he added.
