Plevris to chair meeting on handling the migration flows to Crete on Friday

Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris is to chair a meeting to discuss the next steps in managing the migration flows putting severe pressure on the island of Crete in recent days, to be held at the migration and asylum ministry on Friday afternoon.
The meeting will include Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis, who is also an MP for Rethymno, Deputy Migration and Asylum Minister Sevi Voloudaki, an MP for Chania, the regional governor of Crete Stavros Arnaoutakis and Rethymno Mayor Giorgis Marinakis.
Among the issues to be discussed is the plan to establish a detention centre for migrants on Crete to deal with the increased flow of migrants. Appearing on television on Thursday, Plevris said that this was an urgent necessity, adding that the required spaces had already been made available by the national defence ministry and planning for the centre's construction were already begun.
