Police dismantle gang selling narcotics to tourists in Athens

A gang that approached tourists in the historic center of Athens to traffic narcotics was dismantled by the Hellenic Police.
On Monday, 7 July, four foreign nationals - members of the gang aged 41, 40, 18, and 17 - were arrested. A case file was formed against them, in some cases for violations of legislation on addictive substances and breaches of residence restrictions.
According to the police, the gang members had been trafficking raw cannabis in central areas of Athens since early June.
They would identify locations with high tourist foot traffic, approach passersby, and ask if they wanted to buy small quantities of narcotics. The narcotics were hidden in a specially designed cache in a shop’s toilet flush. So far, the preliminary investigation has linked the defendants to 25 cases of narcotics trafficking.
The suspects, along with the case file, were brought before the prosecutor.
