Wind power capacity exceeded 5.5 GW in first half 2025, HWEA says

Wind power capacity exceeded 5.5 GW in the first half of the year, according to figures announced by the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (HWEA - ELETAEN).
Total wind power capacity in Greece at the end of June 2025 was 5,507 MW as 37 new wind turbines with a capacity of 152.2 MW were connected to the grid during the first half of the year, corresponding to investments totaling 180 million euros.
As HWEA- ELETAEN noted, the annual growth rate doubled compared to the previous year, which it welcomed as positive but not sufficient to restore balance in the mix of RES technologies. Taking into account wind farms that are under construction, contracted and otherwise expected to be connected to the grid, total wind power capacity is expected to reach 6.5 GW in 18 months, it added.
Regarding business groups, the Top 5 are:
- TERNA Energy with 1,034 MW (18.8%)
- MORE with 774 MW (14.1%)
- Iberdrola Rokas with 409 MW (7.4%)
- Principia with 368 MW (6.7%) and
- PPC Renewables with 308 MW (5.6%)
Next in line are Total Energies, EDF, METLEN, Jasper Energy and others.
The Association also deplored delays in putting mature projects into operation, citing bureaucratic obstacles, and pointed out that these delays "were not without consequences" as they would have offered cheaper energy and permanent relief to Greek consumers and the economy than power produced using fossil fuels.
