Justice minister suspends operation of entire Patras coroners' service

Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis on Thursday ordered that the entire Patras coroners' service be suspended, until it can be fully reorganised. The decision was taken when the problems plaguing the Patras service became apparent, given that one medical examiner has died, another has resigned, the head of the service has been suspended and the fourth is involved in the Mourtzoukou infanticide case.
The specific service had also issued the coroner's reports on the deaths of the two children of Roula Pispirigou, who was found guilty of murdering them, as well as for the two babies that Irene Mourtzoukou confessed to murdering on Wednesday.
Until such a time as new staff can be hired for the Patras service, any cases will be handled by the Corinth coroners' service.
