Marinakis highlights Greece’s progress in EU Rule of Law report on TikTok

Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, in a video on TikTok, referred to the Commission’s report on the Rule of Law in the EU and the progress made by Greece.

Marinakis underlined that the report highlights significant progress by Greece, explaining that it refers to:

  • •    The strengthening of journalists’ safety through the creation of the Task Force.
  • •    The abolition of the offence of simple defamation, through the establishment of the Task Force for the Protection of Journalists.
  • •    The gradual incorporation of further provisions against abusive lawsuits targeting journalists.
  • •    The establishment of an observatory to address abusive lawsuits.
  • •    The strengthening of penalties introduced for attacks against media workers.
  • •    The introduction of a specific offence for threats against sports journalists.
  • •    The strengthening of transparency for the registers of the printed and electronic media, with specific reference to the bill the Government voted in Parliament a few weeks ago.

Marinakis said that Greece has managed to reduce the number of recommendations in the Commission’s report on the rule of law from seven to four over the last four years. He also noted that the most important and most resounding answer to the slanderers of Greece, “ both inside and outside its borders, is that most European countries, including Italy, Belgium, Ireland, and many others, have more recommendations than Greece”.
“ The best way to respond to lies is with facts, data, and truth. We keep up the hard work,” Marinakis concluded his video on TikTok.
