Migrants' transfer from Crete to mainlandcontinue, including 520 rescued early Wed

Over 300 refugees/migrants who have arrived on Crete from Libya in recent days have been transported to the controlled facility of Malakassa in East Attica, it was announced on Wednesday.

Specifically, taken to Malakassa were  165 individuals from Heraklion on Tuesday, and 84 individuals from Chania and 67 from Heraklion on Wednesday. 

The 520 refugees/migrants rescued early on Wednesday morning by the coast guard under difficult weather condition off Crete are being transported to Lavrion port, also in East Attica, where they are expected to arrive around 03:00 on Thursday. They will then be transferred from the port to the Malakassa facilities.

The transfers of migrants to mainland facilities continue in order to decongest Crete.
