Patras woman Irene Mourtzoukou confesses to murdering four children

Patras woman Irene Mourtzoukou, aged 25, has confessed to the murder of four young children - including her two babies - while being examined about the death of her sister 11 years ago, police sources said on Wednesday. Mourtzoukou confessed to killing her sister when she was just 14 years old, and subsequently to the murders of her two babies and the child of a friend.
The confession was made at the Homicide Department of the Police Directorate Against Organised Crime, shortly before her transfer to Patras on Wednesday morning to appear before an examining magistrate. According to a police source, she showed signs of wanting to talk after her appearance before a public prosecutor in Athens on Tuesday but she admitted to the murders during an examination concerning the case of her sister, where a preliminary investigation by the Nafplio public prosecutor remains open.
Mourtzoukou allegedly said that she was "overcome by demons" when she fought with her mother and wanted to do harm. During one such a moment, she said, she had killed her sister.
