Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos was briefed on the National Observatory of Athens’ involvement in the NASA-ESA “ Psyche” space mission pilot program.

The director of the Observatory Manolis Vasilakos, presented the progress of a groundbreaking experiment involving laser communication between the Kryoneri Observatory in Corinth and a spacecraft near Mars, some 300 million kilometers away. The signal, part of the “ Psyche” mission, was received minutes later at the Chelmos Observatory, marking the deepest broadband link ever achieved in space.

The project aims to transform Kryoneri into the largest space communications hub in Southeastern Europe, strengthening Greece’s role in optical and quantum space communications.
