ATM theft ring targeting elderly women dismantled by police

An organized criminal ring of women who ambushed elderly victims near ATMs to steal their bank cards and empty their accounts has been dismantled by the Hellenic Police.
Thirteen Bulgarian nationals, twelve women and one man, have been charged, with three women aged 26, 29, and 32 arrested in Cholargos and Agios Panteleimonas. The remaining suspects have been identified and are being sought.
From September 2023 to June 2025, the group operated in pairs, targeting mostly elderly women during busy morning and midday hours. After observing them at ATMs and stealing their PINs, the perpetrators discreetly followed the victims and stole their wallets in crowded areas such as public transport or supermarkets.
Using the stolen cards, they made cash withdrawals and transactions. Police searches recovered 3,975 euros and numerous wallets. So far, 74 theft and fraud cases across Attica have been solved.
The suspects, previously arrested for similar crimes, are believed to have profited over 120,000 euros.
