Beekeeper arrested and fined for causing fire in Alyki Viotias

A 55-year-old beekeeper was arrested for arson over a large fire that broke out in Alyki Viotias, on the coast of the Corinthian Gulf, a day earlier.

According to the Fire Department, the man was arrested for arson from negligence during the smoking of his bees and was fined 8,860 euros.

The fire broke out in a ravine midday on Saturday and led to the evacuation of a village. At least 62 firefighters with 18 fire trucks and 3 ground teams, as well as airplanes and helicopters were involved in putting the fire out.

The man was detained and expected to appear before a judge on Sunday.
