Greek president tours Ionian Center being built in central Athens by church metropolis

President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine Tassoulas paid a visit on Sunday morning to the Ionian Center of the Nea Ionia, Filadelfia, Iraklio and Chalkidona Metropolis that is under construction, accompanied by Archbishop Hieronymos of Athens and All Greece, area Metropolitan Gabriel, and Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina.

Tassoulas was given a tour of the premises that will include a conference and cultural center for youth, dormitory, kindergarten, the Aghios Georghios of Neapolis Church, a library, lounge, and a green square. It is expected to start operation early in 2026, serving the residents of the area that lies in central Athens.

Following the tour, the president praised the project as "a miracle of creation and at the same time a miracle of collaboration among private sponsors, European funding, and national funds." This miracle, he said, would offer a new aspect of the modern role the Greek Orthodox Church can play.

The event was attended by Deputy Premier Kostis Hatzidakis and several ministers, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, Attica Region Governor Nikos Hardalias, and the mayors of all towns the center will serve.
