Weather service update confirms heatwave conditions Sun-Wed

A warning of very high temperatures in Greece as of Sunday through Wednesday (July 6-9) was confirmed by the National Meteorological Service (EMY) in its 24-hour extraordinary forecast update on Saturday.

The rise in temperatures will begin in western Greece and Macedonia as of Saturday, and in the rest of the country as of Sunday. The highest temperatures (average rates of over 40C/104F) are forecast on Monday on the mainland and mostly the west, central, and northern mainland.

The following should be noted:

- At coastal areas of mainland Greece, the highest temperature is expected to be 2 to 4 degrees lower than the temperature on the mainland.

- Relative humidity will be low (indicatively, 20% to 30% in the center of mainland Greece during midday).

- The lowest temperatures in urban centers on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, will remain at high levels, ranging around 26C to 28C (roughly 79F to 82F).

EMY said the extraordinary forecast will be updated every 24 hours, while a general picture of the weather's development can be found at EMY's oldportal.emy.gr address.
