PM Mitsotakis lands in Karyes, Mount Athos to begin two-day visit

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived in the town of Karyes, the administrative centre of the all-male monastic community of Mount Athos, on Friday morning where he was met by the members of the Double Holy Synaxis, consisting of the abbots and representatives of the 20 monasteries on the peninsula. Mitsotakis is carrying out a two-day visit to the monastic community on Friday and Saturday.
The prime minister was accompanied by Alternate National Economy and Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis, Deputy Interior Minister for Macedonia-Thrace Kostas Gkioulekas, New Democracy Political Committee Secretary Kostas Skrekas, the MP for Halkidiki Gianis Giorgos and the mayor of Aristotelis, Stelios Vallianos.
The prime minister arrived in Karyes by helicopter and was met in the central square by the civil governor Alkiviadis Stefanis and Elder Abraham, the Chief Overseer, who led him to the entrance of the Protaton, where he met the abbots and representatives and venerated the icon of the 'Theotokos Axion Esti'.
A mass within the Protaton, the main church of Karyes, was held in the presence of the prime minister, which is to be followed by speeches and the premier's visit to the peninsula's administrative headquarters.
