Fire fighters remained on standby to put out any rekindled fires in the seaside town of Rafina on Friday, following the wildfire that started on Thursday afternoon. After strenuous efforts by fire fighting forces, the flames subsided late on Thursday evening and only smoke was visible within the burnt areas on Friday.
The fire started in low vegetation next to Marathonos Avenue, at the juction with Arionos Street in the municipality of Rafina and spread quickly, causing damage to homes and vehicles in its path.
