Firefighters reinforced as fire burns between Rafina and Pikermi

Strong firefighting forces are containing the fire that has broken out in low vegetation in Rafina. So far, nine civilians have been rescued from the fire, while residents are being evacuated from four settlements.

The fire started around 15:00 at the junction of Marathonos Avenue and Arionos Street, near residential areas. The Fire Brigade has described the situation as “ difficult and dangerous.”

To contain the fire, 104 firefighters have been mobilised, along with 6 hiking teams and 28 vehicles, including volunteers. Four aircraft and six helicopters have been deployed for aerial firefighting. Water trucks from local authorities are also assisting efforts.

Earlier, a message was issued via the 112 emergency system for the evacuation of the settlements Agia Kyriaki, Etos Steko, and Imero Pefko in Rafina.

Due to the fire police have halted traffic on Marathonos Avenue in both directions. Traffic has been halted from the junction with Al. Fleming Street in the direction of Athens, and from the junction of Marathonos with Ag. Dimitriou Street in the direction of Maratho

The ferry Evia Star returned to Marmari due to the fire between Pikermi and Rafina. The vessel was on a scheduled route to Rafina.
According to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, the ferry was carrying 125 passengers, 30 private cars, 5 motorcycles, 2 trucks, and 17 crew members. The return was made as the fire was affecting the approach to the port of Rafina.
Passengers have been informed of the change and are being provided with all possible assistance.
