Famellos: 'They were stealing the farmers' money to buy votes'

“ SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance’s position is clear. A Parliamentary Preliminary Investigation Committee is required to investigate any criminal liabilities of government members,” emphasised SYRIZA-PA leader Sokratis Famellos in an interview with radio Real FM on Thursday.
According to Famellos, there are three clear reasons for this: “ First, the case file sent by the European Prosecutor requests the investigation of all responsibilities, and if they are not examined in Parliament, they cannot be investigated anywhere else. Second, Greek society has clearly adopted the stance - not only from polls - that clarification and cleansing are required at OPEKEPE. Third, we have a parliamentary constitutional responsibility to perform our duties. We have sworn to do so and must leave no room for expiration, the statute of limitations, or a cover-up.”
He asserted that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had clearly been aware of what was going on and accusing ruling New Democracy of setting up a clientelist system that stole money from farmers to "set up" party supporters and buy votes, adding that the prime minister has "already admitted all this".
“ SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance has stated that the government must resign. This also aligns with the wishes of society, which must also express itself,” he said, adding:
“ There is a matter of responsibility of political figures. What should politicians do? What benefits their party and their seat or what benefits Greece? I am obliged, and SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance is obliged to speak about the duties and needs of Greek society. The resignation of the government and elections are required. A different government is needed. Can SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance contribute so that this government becomes progressive? Not only can it contribute, but SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance can create the conditions for something like that.”
