A new message from the 112 emergency number was sent to residents of the villages Ferma, Katharades, Koutsounari and Kakia Skala in the Cretan municipality of Ierapetra on Thursday, telling them to evacuate due to the wildfire that continued to burn in the area.
The new message was sent after the front above Ferma rekindled, with strong ground and air forces now operating to put out the flames.
According to the fire department, there are still actively burning fronts in the region and fire fighters are continuing to battle the flames, though hampered by the rough terrain and the strong winds in the region.
