Kerameus: Unemployment broke the 8% barrier in May

Greece's unemployment has broke through the 8% 'barrier' in May 2025, decreasing to 7.9%, based on ELSTAT data, Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus said on Wednesday, in a post on social media. She also gave assurances that the ministry will continue its intensive efforts to further stimulate employment and reduce unemployment.
Specifically, Kerameus stated:
"A year ago, our country broke the 10% barrier in unemployment, with the first recording of 9.6% in June 2024.
Today, a year later, we break the 8% barrier, with unemployment at 7.9%, according to the latest ELSTAT data.
Last month, we had the most new jobs created in May in the country's history (+137,841) and the best first five months in job creation in the country's history (+324,904).
The course is very positive. We are continuing the intensive effort for even greater stimulation of employment and reduction of unemployment."
