Unemployment falls to 7.9% in May, ELSTAT says

Greece's unemployment rate decreased to 7.9% in May compared to the revised 10.5% in May 2024 and 8.3% in April 2025. The unemployed amounted to 370,369 people, marking a decrease of 128,709 people compared to May 2024 (25.8%) and a decrease of 19,260 people compared to April 2025 (4.9%).

Among women, the unemployment rate was 9.8% from 13.7% in May last year and among men it amounted to 6.2% from 7.9%.

By age group, the unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group reached 19.9% from 25.2% in May 2024 and in the 25-74 age group to 7.1% from 9.6%.

According to the ELSTAT labour force survey, the number of employed persons amounted to 4,346,499, recording an increase of 86,787 persons compared to May 2024 (2%) and of 30,268 persons compared to April 2025 (0.7%).
