Fire Department announces general alert in areas expecting an extreme risk of wildfires

The personnel in all Fire Department services where an extreme (Category 5) risk of fire is predicted will be on general alert, the Fire Department announced on Sunday, while a partial state of alert will be called in those expected to have Very high (Category 4) risk, based on the Fire Risk Map issued by the general secretariat for civil protection.
The fire department warned that conditions will be highly conducive to the start of fires and that patrols from the air are continuing, along with patrols by fire department, police and military forces.
Among the preventative measures will be the banning of visitors and the closing of roads to parks, forests and other vulnerable areas, while all relevant state services have been informed to be on standby to respond to fires.
Members of the public are advised to report any fires they might see to the fire brigade emergency number 199.
